LOGORAMA
March 25, 2010Logorama wins an Oscar in 2010 for Best Animated Short Film. This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, take a look for yourself. The creators mentioned it took something like 10 years to pull this off. I can definitely see why, alot of detail and creativity went into this project. Kudos!

February 16, 2010DJ AM x Nike Dunk Premium
January 11, 2010The highly anticipated collaboration between the late DJ AM and Nike in which DJ AM would not live to see their release. They were released Saturday Janurary 10th 2010 at 10am. As a friend and fan of DJ AM I had to cop a pair of these for sentimental value. Thank you to the fella’s at West NYC (www.westnyc.com) for holding down a pair for me.
Become Mars! Yo Just Do it!!!
January 11, 2010I hand it to Nike for doing some pretty cool stuff on their website. If you grew up in the late 80′s & early 90′s like I did you would remember Spike Lee (Mars) as Nike’s and Michael Jordan’s hype man. Visit www.jumpman23.com so you too came become Mars.
ChiChi212.com = Hi Hater
December 9, 2009
Let me start by saying that I like ChiChi212.com as they keep me informed on the cool happenings in this great city of ours (NYC). However in the last week (2) of their posts made me think that they are just plain hating on the industry. I would like to respond to their posts on behalf of the other honest, hard-working industry type folk such as myself.
The first post is titled “The Top 5 Cheaters in Nightlife” Link to post: http://chichi212.com/nightlife/the-top-five-cheaters-in-nightlife/ .
I’m going to run down their list in order:
The Promoter: The promoter is what he is, but give him some credit. If it wasn’t for The Promoter nightlife would be bland. The Promoter does what he does best to make the night more fun for you. If promoters didn’t do what they do to bring girls in it would be a straight sausage fest (YUCK). I’m sure ChiChi212 has needed a promoter at one time or another to give them the “blogger” hook-up.
The DJ: I will answer this one 1st hand! If it wasn’t for the DJ you would be listening to an IPod at your favorite hotspot. A DJ should act like the booth is his throne and should get love from the bar (even though most places we don’t). We work hard every night to ensure you leave the club talking about the party. We are artists and performers…Some of us do it for the fame, others the money, some for love of music. Whatever the reason is we have deserved the right to sit high in our DJ Booth if it has been earned. I rarely see girls in the booth while a “good” DJ is working. PS: I’m a smoker; the last time I smoked in a DJ booth was about a year ago.
Bottle Hosts/Waitresses: I like that the bottle waitresses flaunt around in skimpy outfits flirting with high-profile clients. It gives me and the party goers a little eye candy!!! If the crowd is full of fugly girls (no offense ladies, just making a point) at least you know you have hot bottle waitress to look at during the night! It is nice to befriend some of these bottle waitresses as when a DJ can’t leave the booth she will bring you water or a Red Bull.
Bartenders: This is an easy one: Could you do their job??? I couldn’t. In a busy spot these guys and girls go thru hell and are usually the very last employees to leave the club! Please tip your bartenders responsibly!
Managers: No comment
Bottom Line: ChiChi212 should stick to what they know; they shouldn’t make broad generalizations about different people in the industry. Just because they have befriended a few people in the industry in each category mentioned, does not make ChiChi212 an expert.
The second post is titled “Ten Things Bad DJ’s Do to Ruin Your Night” Link to post: http://chichi212.com/music/ten-things-bad-djs-do-that-ruin-your-night/
Again running down the list in order:
Playing from their IPod: I’ve never seen a DJ DJ from their IPod. I’d love to know which spot your speaking of so I may send them a demo.
Not Playing to the crowd: Uhhhh are we contradicting ourselves??? You say 2 lines down a DJ’s job is to play music people haven’t heard before. So which one do you want, cant’ have your cake and eat it too?
Not Mixing: Can you send me a demo of your DJ work?
Playing Song that are on the Radio: I thought my original job was to play to the crowd.
Turning off the song at the best part: The best part of a song is the part that the DJ plays, remember it’s an art. The DJ plays which part of the track that fits in his musical sculpture.
Talking through the entire song: Since when does NYC’s finer Nightlife establishments let their DJ’s make shout outs all night long?
Scratching badly over songs that don’t mix: I’ve personally been at a spot in which one the DJ’s you are showing luv to ”Scratching badly over a song that did not mix”.
Scratching badly, Period: Refer to above
Playing the same songs in the same order: I think you should become a DJ yourself, seems as if you have a natural musical ear to know what is going to be played next.
Not listening to the DJ before you: So let me get this straight, you want me to show up 3 hours before I have to DJ so I can listen to the opening DJ’s set?
*Shout outs to all the decent DJ’s that were amused by these 2 ChiChi212 posts. Big ups to my manager Kristen Mcintyre for helping me write this article. Richie Romero for throwing some hot parties, DJ Ski-Hi, Ody Roc, & Marc Pierce for keepin it real, Rachel Domingo our Bottle Waitress, and DJ Blaze for being one of the best DJ’s in Manhattan (just throwing that one in for shits & gigs).
